AUSTIN, TX – Jan. 15, 2010 – Motion Computing®, a leading provider of integrated mobile computing solutions, has released a whitepaper highlighting recent research on mobile and wireless solutions in construction from VDC Research Group and a selection of case studies from construction software providers Bluebeam, Latista and Vela Systems. The whitepaper, now available for download, shows how leading construction firms are deploying Motion® Tablet PCs and industry-leading software solutions to improve productivity on the jobsite.
David Krebs, senior analyst for VDC Research, published a research brief exclusively for Motion, Mobile and Wireless Solutions in Construction, which is also available for download. In the report Krebs states, “The market for slate tablets is now growing, particularly in niche markets that need more powerful modular and detachable solutions.” VDC defines rugged mobile computers as devices designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions including exposure to water, extreme temperatures, humidity and altitude and drops from at least three feet. These devices conform to IP specifications and Mil Spec 810-F or 810-G.
This adoption is explained in the whitepaper which includes case studies with industry leading firms Turner Construction, Hill International, and Clark Construction Group, LLC. Running on Motion Tablet PCs, Bluebeam helped streamline the punch process for the $500 million Terranea oceanfront resort and Latista Field produced significant results on projects for Clark Construction, including improved profitability and quality control. Vela Systems helped Hill International improve team collaboration, time savings, and quality control.
“This new whitepaper provides a look into the processes that can be improved on the jobsite with tablet PCs and industry-specific software solutions,” said Mike Stinson, vice president of marketing for Motion. “VDC’s insight into construction mobility solutions with real world use cases will help construction firms identify opportunities for mobility solutions on their own projects.”
